Rhinos Wave Charge

Rhinos Wave Charge 27th Nov 2010

The forecast looked good from the very start of the week and held strong all the way through. Everybody was hungry for waves. It was also the last event of 2010 of the Rhinos Wave Charge and also the last event of the year in Ireland. It had been a awesome winter for wind and waves. But we got more then we bargained for on this weekend. On the wends the forecast started to show the temperature dropping. On Saturday morning of the event everyone was meet with 3 inchs of snow covering everything. It was going to be a interesting day. The bad weather did make it very hard for some to make the drive. But their was still a great turn out. The sky was blue for the most part and the waves where between 3/5 foot range. The wind was perfect cross shore form the right. Most people started of on their big kites 11s and 10s then dropped down to 7 and 6 as the wind picked up. Most people spent at least 3 hours on the water sum clock up 5hr. The wind was so usually cold for Nov with temps down to +1 or -2 degs.

Their where a number of stand out riders. New comer Lloyd form up north was ripping hard on his 6'6 surf board and his 8m Ozone lite.
But the stand out rider of the day and the Rhinos Wave Charge rider of the Year was young Clare coast rider Mark Barry. He has won himself a 6,2 Underground Puhuto and some Ozone goodies.
Well done Mark we are looking forward to seeing you charging at more RWC events in the coming years.
